About Heidi
My musical journey began at the age of four in Helsinki, Finland. Inspired early on by my very first teacher, I discovered a lifelong passion not just for playing the piano, but for the art of teaching it. That early inspiration set me on a path of extensive pedagogical and classical performance training across two continents.
Today, I am proud to bring over 20 years of international teaching and performing experience to my private studio in Alameda, California.
A Global Perspective on Music Education
Through my formal studies in both Europe and North America, I have been exposed to a rich variety of teaching traditions. This deep, diverse knowledge allows me to craft an individualized approach for every student who walks through my door, drawing from the best global methods to match their unique learning style.
My background includes:
Master of Music in Piano Performance & Pedagogy (Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto)
Bachelor of Music in Music Pedagogy (Helsinki Conservatory)
20+ Years of Experience running successful private studios in both Toronto and the San Francisco Bay Area, preparing students for festivals and prestigious examinations.
Beyond the Studio
I highly value staying active in the broader music community, which continually fuels the energy and expertise I bring to my students.
RCM Senior Examiner: As a Senior Examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music, I regularly adjudicate and celebrate the achievements of hardworking piano students across the United States and Canada.
Performer & Conference Presenter: I maintain an active career as a solo and collaborative classical pianist. As a native of Finland, I am a passionate champion of Nordic music; I have released two albums focusing on Scandinavian repertoire and regularly present on the topic at state and national music teachers' conferences.
Mentor: I take great joy in supporting and mentoring the next generation of piano teachers as they launch their own careers.
I love getting to know the wonderful community of students here in Alameda. Whether you are introducing your child to the piano for the first time or returning to the keys as an adult, I look forward to helping you cultivate a well-rounded musicianship and a lifelong love for music.
